AHA Men's Notes; Preseason Favorites Clash, Bentley's Bevilacqua Shines
The AHA's preseason favorites clash this weekend in Worcester, while Bentley's Nicholas Bevilacqua will look to stay hot between the pipes.

The action gets started on Thursday this week as the AHA’s preseason favorites collide. It’s the first of nine AHA contests on the slate, along with a non-conference battle at Air Force.
Here’s what fans can watch for this weekend in AHA men’s hockey.
Preseason Favorites Set To Clash
Sacred Heart came in atop the AHA Preseason Poll with seven first-place votes, followed by Holy Cross with two. After two weeks of AHA play, the two schools are tied atop the standings with six points each, and now they’ll go head-to-head.
Holy Cross (2-5-0, 2-1-0) will host Sacred Heart (3-2-0, 2-0-0) for a pair of games in Worcester, both of which will be available here on Flo. Thursday and Friday’s games will both start at 7 p.m. EDT.
The Crusaders took the season series last winter, 3-1, and lead the all-time series, 49-42-6.
Holy Cross is coming off a 5-1 win over Army last time out and defeated Mercyhurst to open AHA play. The Crusaders are led offensively by junior Connor Welsh (4-1-5) and received 21 saves from junior Connor MacKenzie last time out in the win over Army.
SHU is unbeaten in conference play but has dropped two of its past three. The Pioneers fell to Stonehill at home, 3-2, and earned a split at No. 14 Ohio State last weekend. Felix Trudeau scored both goals in Friday’s 2-1 overtime win but the Pioneers dropped the finale, 3-0.
Bevilacqua Breakout
Nicholas Bevilacqua made quite the season debut last weekend, leading Bentley to a pair of wins over Canisius. The sophomore made 28 saves in Friday’s 4-1 win and followed it up with a 22-save shutout on Saturday. He was named the AHA Goalie of the Week for his efforts.

Bevilacqua is 2-0-0 with an AHA-leading .950 save percentage, and the Falcons are one of four teams tied atop the standings with six points. Bevilacqua played in just one game last season and made 20 saves in a 1-0 overtime loss at Princeton. He spent the two previous seasons in the NCDC.
Bentley will head to Mercyhurst (0-7-0, 0-1-0) this weekend. The Lakers have been out-scored 40-9 through seven games.
Robert Morris, Niagara Set For AHA-Opener
Robert Morris and Niagara are the final AHA teams without a conference game played. That’ll change this weekend as the Colonials and Purple Eagles will square off in a home-and-home.
RMU is 0-3-1 but earned a shootout win last Saturday at Notre Dame – although it goes down as a tie. The Colonials were swept at Michigan to open the season and Friday’s game will double as RMU’s conference and home opener. RMU finished 4-9-3 on home ice last season.
Niagara (3-2-0) won an exhibition contest last Friday over the NTDP, 4-1. Jason Lammers’ club is led by freshman Maxim Muranov (4-1-5) and Latvian goaltender Deivs Rolovs (3-1-0) owns a .946 save percentage. They’ve out-scored their opponents 12-4 in their three home wins and will look to add more on Saturday.
Friday’s game is set for a 7 p.m. faceoff in Moon, followed by a 6 p.m. start at Niagara on Saturday.
