FloHockey AHL Power Rankings: Providence Bruins Still Atop The AHL
The Providence Bruins remain atop the FloHockey AHL Power Rankings going into a road clash with the unbeaten Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

Patrick Williams again will deliver the FloHockey AHL Power Rankings throughout the regular season.
Week 1 had the Providence Bruins atop the Power Rankings. They are still there after taking two more wins and possessing a dominant offense. Hot in pursuit are the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, however, and the AHL schedule-maker has those teams facing each other this Wednesday night.

Here is how this week’s Top-10 group looks.
1) Providence Bruins (--)
After home wins against Springfield and Bridgeport last weekend, the P-Bruins are producing a gaudy 4.67 goals per game. They have five players among the AHL’s top-20 scoring leaders (Riley Tufte, Georgii Merkulov, Patrick Brown, Matěj Blümel, Fabian Lysell). Keep an eye on goaltender Simon Zajicek, an offseason signing by the Boston Bruins following a standout season with HC Litvinov. He has allowed just five goals in his three appearances so far.

A visit to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to face the unbeaten Penguins on Wednesday night is next.
2) Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (+2)
The Penguins went south to Charlotte and swept the Checkers in back-to-back games this past weekend. Goaltender Sergei Murashov picked up a 26-save shutout in last Friday’s 4-0 win and was named the Howies Hockey Tape/AHL Player of the Week. So far the 21-year-old is 5-0-0 | 1.40 | .949 in five appearances this season. NHL veteran forward Danton Heinen leads the AHL in scoring as well. One challenge will be dealing with recalls for defenseman Owen Pickering and forward Ville Koivunen (second in AHL scoring) to the Pittsburgh Penguins since this past Sunday. Pittsburgh sent several veterans to its AHL affiliate in training camp, and those players have shown up ready to perform.

3) Grand Rapids Griffins (--)
After seeing several prospect stick with the Detroit Red Wings out of training camp, some help has arrived in Grand Rapids with the assignments of first-round picks Michael Brandsegg-Nygård and Nate Danielson to the Griffins. With 36 goals last season for Charlotte, forward John Leonard has continued to produce and has five goals through four games. Goaltenders Sebastian Cossa and Michal Postava are both off to dominant starts for a team with a collective save percentage of .942.
4) Colorado Eagles (+2)
The Eagles had a clunker on home ice last Saturday to close out a two-game visit from Rockford, but overall the Eagles are playing like the talented group that they are for new head coach Mark Letestu. Even with that loss, a night earlier they had thumped the IceHogs, 5-0. They have had to deal with a fair amount of roster movement to and from the parent Colorado Avalanche, but goaltender Trent Miner went on waivers Tuesday. If he clears, the Eagles should be set in net with Miner, rookie Isak Posch, and newcomer Kyle Keyser as options.
After a two-game home set with the Bakersfield Condors, the Eagles will go back to California for another three-game swing. Earlier this month they went 2-1-0-0 on a journey through Coachella Valley, San Diego, and Ontario.

5) Rockford IceHogs (--)
After that 5-0 loss to the Eagles, Rockford responded with a 4-0 victory the following night. That effort is an encouraging one for a young team. Rookie forwards Nick Landis and Oliver Moore have been offensively dominant for a team that possesses significant firepower elsewhere on the roster. Even having been shut out by Colorado, they still have 15 goals in their past four games.
6) Syracuse Crunch (+2)
Rookie forward Dominic James went up to the Tampa Bay Lightning following a quick start. Frequent player movement to and from Tampa Bay has long been a reality for the Crunch, and that pattern has continued into this season. However, it has not slowed down the Crunch, who are 5-1-0-0. Brandon Halverson already has two shutouts in four decisions this season. A good test comes Wednesday at Toronto before home match-ups against Utica and Belleville.
7) Ontario Reign (not ranked)
The opening weeks of the season featured considerable change for the Reign. There is new head coach Andrew Lord. Pheonix Copley had departed on waivers to the Tampa Bay Lightning, leaving a hole in net for the Reign coming out of training camp. Now Lord has had that much more time since then to implement his foundation with the team, and Copley is back after the Los Angeles Kings reacquired him from Tampa Bay. The veteran won his season debut with the Reign last Friday at Abbotsford while Erik Portillo completed the sweep in the rematch with the Canucks.
8) Henderson Silver Knights (+2)
The early returns for the Silver Knights look positive, especially considering that top goaltender Carl Lindbom is on recall to the Vegas Golden Knights. The Jesper Vikman-Cameron Whitehead tandem has stepped up and provided the Silver Knights with more than adequate goaltending in Lindbom’s absence. After sweeping the visiting San Diego Gulls in back-to-back games this past weekend, they host Ontario on Wednesday before a two-game trip to Abbotsford this weekend.

9) Chicago Wolves
A light early schedule will intensify considerably with four games this week for the Wolves. In all, they will play six games in the first 12 nights of November. The upcoming workload should provide a good barometer for whether the relatively inexperienced tandem of Amir Miftakhov and Nikita Quapp can carry the Wolves in net this season.
10) Rochester Americans (not ranked)
A goaltender like Devon Levi means that the Amerks have a good chance on any particular night. Rochester’s net has been a busy place with four goaltenders used in just seven games so far. The roster moves have come early and frequently for the Amerks, but they have held on and take a three-game winning streak into this week. They can score, too, and have hit four-plus goals in four of their seven contests so far. A three-game swing through Belleville (Wednesday) and Laval (Friday, Saturday) is next for the Amerks.
