The 22 players that will represent Team CHL at the upcoming CHL USA Prospects Challenge has been revealed, as many top prospects for the 2026 NHL Draft will get their chance to shine.

The roster of CHL NHL Draft eligibles will compete against the U.S. National Under-18 Team from USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program on Nov. 25 and 26 in Calgary and Lethbridge, Alberta.

Of the CHL players named, 15 were recently listed by NHL Central Scouting players as A-rated prospects for the 2026 NHL Draft, meaning those players are viewed as potential first-round draft picks for next June.

The rest of the players were no lower than B-rated by Central Scouting.

This is a loaded roster that features all of the best NHL Draft prospects currently in the CHL’s three leagues. There are 10 players from the OHL, eight from the WHL and four from the QMJHL.

We already knew that Ryan Roobroeck, Xavier Villeneuve and Ryan Lin were the three players named to Team CHL as they entered the season as the highest-rated prospects in their respective leagues. Now they’ll be joined by a cast of high-end players that will be competing in front of one of the largest collections of scouts we’ll see all season.

Here’s a look at who made Team CHL

Roster Analysis

International Flavor To Roster

At last year’s CHL USA Prospects Challenge, Team CHL was made up almost entirely of Canadians. Blake Fiddler, who was on the team, represents USA internationally but is a dual citizen. This year, Team CHL will feature seven non-Canadian players including five from the United States and two from Europe.

Czechia native Adam Novotný and Russian-born Egor Shilov are two representatives from outside of North America on the roster. Both are A-rated prospects. Shilov is currently among the top NHL Draft-eligible scorers in the QMJHL, while Novotný has shown some good flashes with Peterborough.

The Americans selected to Team CHL include the top scorer in all of the CHL, JP Hurlbert of the WHL’s Kamloops Blazers. Nikita Klepov, currently second in OHL scoring, is another American on the roster and is a dual USA-Russia citizen. A-rated defenseman Chase Reid (Soo Greyhounds), A-rated forward Brooks Rogowski (Oshawa Generals) and B-rated goalie Harrison Boettiger (Kelowna Rockets) are the other American players in the game.

Interestingly enough, Boettiger played in this game last season as a member of the NTDP. He graduated from the program last season and signed with Kelowna. Meanwhile, Hurlbert will be playing against his former teammates as he left the NTDP in the offseason for the WHL. That adds an interesting wrinkle and underlying storyline to the game.

Rising Stock Players Get Their Chance To Prove Themselves

There are a number of players on Team CHL that are benefitting from a very strong start to their seasons and thus are seeing their stock rise in the eyes of scouts.

Among those players, Caleb Malhotra (Brantford Bulldogs), Hurlbert, Shilov, Rogowski, Klepov, and Maddox Dagenais (Quebec Remparts) are just a few players riding the wave of a very strong start. This game will provide a good showcase for each of them to show how they look among their draft-eligible peers.

There’s still an awfully long way to the NHL Draft, but having a strong start, sustaining it and continuing to prove it’s more than just a hot start will allow each of these players to really boost the opinion of them among scouts.

Injured Players With A Chance To Bounce Back

There are also a couple of injured players that haven’t played much this year that could get a big stage to prove their readiness. Last year, Matthew Schaefer left the CHL USA Prospects Challenge with more and more people believing he could be the No. 1 pick. He had missed the first month of the season with mono. These games can be a springboard.

This year, the two players in question are Charlie Morrison, defenseman for the Quebec Remparts, and Alessandro Di Iorio, center for the Sarnia Sting. Neither has played a regular-season game yet, but both made the roster.

There’s still a chance either one of them could not be cleared in time for the game, but if they’re healthy in a few weeks and can be part of it, it’s another chance to reintroduce themselves to scouts.

Top Prospects Get The Chance To Separate

A showcase game like this puts all of the best players on the same ice and gives scouts the chance to get some one-to-one comparisons and side-by-side looks. Last year, Schaefer was the best player on the ice the whole time. He really separated himself from the pack. Others like Porter Martone and Michael Misa didn’t necessarily elevate to the same degree, but both showed that a strong season is far more important than a showcase series.

That said, the group of players listed at or near the top of this draft class have very little separating them. Being on the same ice surface can be the measuring stick the standout players use to their advantage.

The players I’ll be most closely watching for that are Ethan Belchetz and Ryan Roobroeck, who are the top draft-eligible forwards in the OHL coming into the season. Belchetz has had the much stronger start to the year, but Roobroeck has plenty of track record of offensive success. Seeing them side-by-side on the same team could be very informative.

I’m also going to be watching closely Xavier Villeneuve and Ryan Lin. They’re two of the more gifted defensemen with the puck on their stick in this draft, but still lack a little size relative to some of the other players in the class. Which of these two players really takes charge in the game and can generate offense? There’s also the chance that some of the other defensemen on this team elevate and surpass either or both of them. Still, seeing both in this setting will be revelatory considering we likely won’t ever see them on the same surface again this season.
