Lindenwood Hockey Braces For Home Clash With No. 5 Denver Pioneers
Lindenwood will be playing one of its biggest home series in program history as the Lions play host to No. 5 Denver. Both games are live on FloHockey.

Lindenwood is about to play one of its biggest home series in program history this weekend. The Lions will welcome the No. 5-ranked, 10-time NCAA champion University of Denver Pioneers to the Centene Community Ice Center for a pair of home games. Both games will stream on FloHockey with enhanced production Friday and Saturday night with puck drop set for 7 p.m. CT.

The Lions are coming off of a thrilling road sweep of Lake Superior State over which Lindenwood scored 12 goals in the two-game set to improve to 2-2 on the young season.
There have been early returns on two of the team’s key transfers from the Canadian U Sports ranks. Charles Savoie is leading the team with seven points through the first four games, while Giovanni Morneau is pacing the Lions with four goals and is second with six points.
Both players had QMJHL experience before playing a year of U Sports and now are showing that the skills they showed at those levels are translating to the NCAA, but they will really be put to the test this weekend.
Denver comes into the state of Missouri with the No. 5 ranking in the USCHO.com men’s college hockey poll and a 1-0-1 record that includes a win over Bentley and road tie against in-state rival Air Force. The DU roster boasts 14 NHL Draft picks, while Lindenwood has none.
The Pioneers have been led by junior defenseman Eric Pohlkamp (SJS), who had a hat trick against Bentley last weekend and has four points through two games. Pohlkamp is an All-America candidate and former U.S. World Junior player who has been on upward trend in his game for the last three seasons, dating back to his final USHL season with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders.
Pohlkamp was also one of the first 10 players named to the first-ever U.S. Collegiate Select Team that will represent college hockey at the Spengler Cup, an annual tournament played in Davos, Switzerland, featuring top professional clubs from across Europe. It will be another great experience for the San Jose Sharks prospect who could turn pro after his junior campaign.

Beyond Pohlkamp, the Pios boast a roster full of NHL prospects. Among them are senior and former Minnesota Wild second-round pick Rieger Lorenz, who is looking to have his best season yet with a career 61 points in 127 games. DU is also expecting a lot out of freshman addition Kristian Epperson, who was picked in the third round by the Los Angeles Kings in June after an impressive 80-point season with the Saginaw Spirit in the OHL.
Sophomore forward Jake Fisher is another player to watch early this season. The fourth-round pick of the Colorado Avalanche has poured seven shots on goal in his first two games this season and scored once.
Here’s the full list of NHL Draft picks on Denver’s roster, listed by order of round of selection.
- Rieger Lorenz, F, Minnesota Wild
- Samu Salminen, F, New Jersey Devils
- Kristian Epperson, F, Los Angeles Kings
- Hagen Burrows, F, Tampa Bay Lightning
- Jake Fisher, F, Colorado Avalanche
- Garrett Brown, D, Winnipeg Jets
- Quentin Miller, G, Montreal Canadiens
- Sammy Harris, F, Montreal Canadiens
- Clarke Caswell, F, Seattle Kraken
- Eric Pohlkamp, D, San Jose Sharks
- Eric Jamieson, D, Calgary Flames
- Tory Pitner, D, Colorado Avalanche
- James Reeder, F, Los Angeles Kings
- Brendan McMorrow, F, Los Angeles Kings
The Pioneers will also roll into town with one of the nation's top head coaches. David Carle already has two national titles and two World Junior Championship gold medals to his name and is only 35 years old. He eschewed NHL opportunities to remain at the University of Denver, where he has been head coach since 2018.
Carle was featured by FloHockey last summer when he was looking to become the first coach to ever help Team USA win back-to-back gold medals at the World Juniors. A few months after this piece ran, he accomplished that goal and became one of the hottest prospects in the coaching industry, but he chose to stay, and now will chase his program's 11th national title to extend their record.
While Lindenwood will have their work cut out for them, the school has done a good job of aggressively scheduling top programs to come to their home ice. Division I men’s hockey is only its fourth season at the school. In previous years, Lindenwood played almost entirely on the road.
Last season, the school played the most we’d seen them at home with about nine games against Division I opponents. This year, they’re playing 16 games on home ice against Division I opponents.
They opened the season with another college hockey blue blood in Wisconsin. They’ve got Denver this weekend, Miami University the following week and will play a total of six home games in November including four against Division I opponents Robert Morris and long Island.
With new head coach Keith Fisher, playing in the Centene Community Ice Center, now getting home games broadcast on FloHockey, and hosting the first ever United College Hockey Cup tournament featuring fellow Division I independents, this is clearly a growth year for Lindenwood hockey.
Having the opportunity to play some of college hockey's best programs on your home ice is a great chance to attract new fans, show off your program and it also offers a learning experience for the players. When you have the chance to put your team up against one of the most legendary programs in college hockey's long history, it's only a positive.
Don’t miss both games, brought to you live exclusively on FloHockey.
