Top NHL Prospects In Sweden Set To Square Off In SHL Tuesday
Four of the best NHL prospects in Sweden will square off on the same ice Tuesday as Anton Frondell, Victor Eklund and Viggo Björck take on Ivar Stenberg.

The SHL season is just under 10 days old and we’ve had plenty of great games right here on FloHockey. The one that NHL prospect fans should be most interested in, however, is coming up on Tuesday.

That game will feature undefeated Frölunda against newly promoted Djurgårdens in a battle between two of Sweden’s most storied clubs. It’s also a matchup that could feature as many as four future or recent NHL first-round draft picks including each of the two best Swedish prospects for the 2026 NHL Draft. Puck drop is set for 1 p.m. ET.
Frölunda has been rolling to start the season, winning each of its first three games and outscoring opponents 8-3 over that span. While Frölunda is more of a veteran team, top 2026 NHL Draft prospect Ivar Stenberg is getting a regular shift, primarily playing on the team’s third line to start.
He is averaging 13:46 per game and has accounted for one assist so far. Stenberg is a 5-foot-11 winger with good speed, skill and a bit of jam to him. He has proven through last season and into this season that he’s more than capable of holding his own at the SHL level, but I’m sure both he and the team will want to see points coming more regularly.
Djurgårdens has also played three games so far, winning two and losing one.
While they have plenty of solid veterans to lean on, the squad has not been shy about playing its young players. Chicago Blackhawks third-overall pick Anton Frondell, New York Islanders No. 16 pick Victor Eklund and projected first-rounder for 2026 Viggo Björck have each played in all three games so far.
Each player has seen a regular shift, each has one assist and each has gotten involved with enough frequency in the games to date that you’d expect both to see their roles grow in prominence if and when they take another step here to contribute.
Frondell leads the team with seven shots on goal to date, with Eklund posting six and Björck has three.
All four of the big-time prospects playing in this game will be big pieces for Sweden’s team at the World Juniors. For both Stenberg and Björck, head-to-head competition will likely be rare, so you’d have to expect a little extra juice from each as they try to show what they can do both for Team Sweden and the many NHL scouts that will surely be in attendance for this game.
Frölunda-Djurgårdens games are going to be real scouting treats this year with so many of the top young Swedes under one roof. With this game on FloHockey, you can put your scouting hat on from your couch.
Scouting Reports
Anton Frondell, C, Djurgårdens IF (CHI)
The No. 3 pick in the 2025 NHL Draft, Frondell was a standout in HockeyAllsvenskan last season, helping Djurgårdens earn promotion with one of the more productive draft campaigns by a player in Sweden's second division. Frondell has size and strength to go along with an elite shot that he can get off from anywhere. His two-way play is well respected for his age. The only knock on him in his draft year was some lackluster showings at international events and his effectiveness wasn't as sharp down the stretch of the season. That said, he was committed to helping his boyhood team get back to the SHL and stay there. As the team's third-line center, often playing with longtime friend Victor Eklund, Frondell is looking to take that next step in his career before heading to North America to join the Blackhawks.
Victor Eklund, RW, Djurgårdens IF (NYI)
Speedy and tenacious, Eklund plays a style of hockey that can frustrate opposing teams. He is relentless in puck pursuit and takes good care of the puck when he has it. He can beat defenders wide with speed, but isn't afraid to drive the net and get pucks to the middle. He'll need to get a bit stronger to play that style more effectively, but Eklund is a very competitive player and it has led to his becoming a key prospect for the Islanders. He already played in the World Juniors last year and is sure to be a key player for the team in his second trip later this year.
Viggo Björck, RW/LW, Djurgårdens IF (2026)
Björck has played all three games for the senior team so far this year and looks like he could be sticking around. They're giving him good shifts between the third and fourth line. Maybe they'll send him to J20 for a little bit of a boost at times, but Björck torched that level last year. He had the highest scoring season in the history of Sweden's national U20 circuit at just 16 years old. Björck's NHL prospects are going to be interesting to follow because he is small and his skating isn't elite, which would help. The hockey sense on this kid, however, is very strong. He also competes and doesn't let himself outworked. Where he lands in the draft order next June will be fascinating. If he starts producing at the senior level, it will definitely turn some heads after what he showed in junior last year.
Ivar Stenberg, RW, Frölunda HC (2026)
Stenberg flirted with coming to North America and going the NCAA route this year. Frölunda signed him to a pro contract instead and got him right into their lineup. While he didn't produce much in the regular season, he was great in the playoffs. Now getting a regular shift on the team's third line, Stenberg has the mix of speed and skill that should challenge players at any level. He competes hard and doesn't let himself get pushed around despite being more average sized. He is currently viewed as a top-three prospect for the 2026 NHL Draft and a productive season at the SHL will only enhance his chances of going in that range.
