The Abbotsford Canucks rolled into Game 2 of the AHL Calder Cup Playoff finals leading the series 1-0 following a thrilling 4-3 double overtime win on Friday over the Charlotte Checkers.
But Sunday's performance saw a Charlotte team that wasn't about to back down on their home turf a second time.
The Canucks and Checkers endured a lengthy 72-game regular season and five rounds of playoffs to be able to compete for the national trophy. Now the two No. 2 seeds have already made for an exciting final series that continued on Sunday evening.

The opening period of the game saw an explosive first goal by Charlotte's lead scorer John Leonard, but Abbotsford answered with a score of its own by Sammy Blais. The two teams would match each other once more in goals to keep it a tied 2-2 game throughout the next two periods, sending the match into overtime.
A final goal by the Checkers less than five minutes into overtime sealed the deal for Charlotte to make the series tied at 1-1 heading into Tuesday.

Michael Benning saves the Checkers with a corner shot on the power play to get the win in overtime. The series is now tied 1-1, and Game 3 is set for Tuesday, June 17.
