It's Happening: Second Overtime Is Upon Us
Checkers won the first faceoff before losing the puck and starting again towards the Canucks zone before turning it over to Di Giuseppe and Karlsson at the blue line giving the Canucks possession for over a minute in their zone.
Buzzer Sounds, Off To Double OT
After 80 minutes, the teams are off for a 15 minute break before returning to the ice to try to get another puck into the net. It's been 31 minutes and 46 seconds of play since the tying goal from Ty Mueller off the assist from Tristen Nielsen.
3 shots for ABB, 16 for CLT in the first overtime.
Canucks Kill Another, 5 For 5 Penalties - OT, 1:24
They've done it again.
Shots 47 for CLT, 26 for ABB. Shots from Leonard, Puljujarvi, Okuliar, and Lockwood on the power play.
Physicality Picks Up, Checkers Go On Power Play Again - OT, 3:32
After some post-whistle chippiness, the Charlotte Checkers go on the power play once again with Nate Smith in the sin bin.
It's hard to believe Charlotte couldn't score after Benning went from the top of the point to give it to Puljujarvi down low who found Leonard on the seam pass and was still unable to beat Silovs on the shot.
Canucks Kill It Off Yet Again - OT, 5:39
Ending with an offensive chance by Mueller, the Abbotsford Canucks were able to kill off yet another power play on the Checkers as they try to finish the win.
Shots are 42 for CLT, 25 for ABB with 4:58 left.
Di Giuseppe High Sticks Carrick - OT, 8:21
Charlotte Checkers go on the first power play of overtime but they have an 0-4 record so far this game a man-up. Benning got the first shot off coming out of the faceoff.
Canucks cleared twice.
Checkers set it up but Silovs covered it up on Okuliar trying to go between his own legs at the crease.
Mueller won the faceoff clean and cleared it down the rink.
Chaos ensued on the next entry with a number of missed passes by the Checkers and blocked shots, although they held possession.
The power play ended with a Canucks faceoff win going to Mueller who broke out before losing the puck to get a shot away on Kahkonen.
Silovs Makes Great Glove Save - OT, 10:10
At ten minutes into overtime, Silovs has seen five shots from five different Checkers including a beautiful glove save high from Will Lockwood.
With 9:29 to go, Di Giuseppe got a shot onto Kahkonen for his first save of OT. Earlier in the period, a precarious shot from Karlsson deflected off the post which highlighted the best chances for the Canucks.
Canucks Ice The Puck After 4-on-3 Attempt By Charlotte - OT, 13:03
Abbotsford is in a similar position as the Checkers were just minutes ago, getting an unfortunate icing with a tired line on the ice. A four-on-three attempt by the Checkers almost resorted in a goal by Carrick but was saved by Silovs.
Charlotte Ices The Puck With Tired D - OT, 15:29
After an extended possession by the Canucks in the Checkers' end, they attempted to clear but sent the puck too far to draw a faceoff back in their end and bring back out a very tired line.
After getting a change, they were able to put on the first shots on goal in overtime from Criscuolo and Sourdif five minutes in.
Puck Dropped In Overtime
Extra minutes are underway in this battle for the ages. The first shot came from Di Giuseppe 14 seconds into the period to pick things up right where Abbotsford left off.

Karlsson Draws Tripping Call On Cesana - 3rd, 3:41
On a scoring chance alone in the offensive zone, Karlsson drew a tripping on an unfortunate stick placement by Cesana to give the Canucks a late power play chance in game one.
The power play continued to struggle to convert but they are still offering a lot of pressure for the home team. Checkers killed it off unscathed outside of a short scrum in front of the Abbotsford net as Skoog knocked on Silovs' front door.
Less Than Five Minutes To Go, Abbotsford Seizes Control - 3rd, 4:52
The shot differential has continued to close down, and the Canucks have kept increasing the pressure after scoring the tying goal. Only four shots on goal have been sent since the end of the last power play, and unlike their power play, they've all been by Abby.
Back To Even Strength And Still Tied Up - 3rd, 9:01
Charlotte kills off another penalty and takes credit for the best offensive chance at the hands of MacKenzie Entwistle the other way, forcing Silovs to make the save.

Momentum Leveling Out, Chances Slow - 3rd, 12:29
As the third period neared the halfway point, the defensive strength started showing for both and offensive chances dwindled to about one shot per two minutes.
Shots are 28 for Charlotte, 17 for Abbotsford. Just two each in the third period.
Checkers Kill Another Power Play - 3rd, 18:40
The Canucks were able to get their offense set up in the offensive zone with 30 seconds left on the power play as Bains and Karlsson sent the puck back and forth trying to get a look on Kahkonen. Kaapo didn't falter though and made a nice glove save when Karlsson decided to pull the trigger.
Puck Dropped On 3rd Period

Intensity Skyrockets In Final Minutes Of 2nd - 2nd intermission
It was all Checkers for a majority of the second period until the Canucks were able to shake off their weak power play and get back to setting up their offense in 5-on-5 play. With the help of another power play, there's a chance we'll be tied up before too long—but, the Checkers defense has been stalwart with a lot of help from Kaapo.

Going the other way, Sourdif broke away and tried to go forehand-to-backhand to slip the puck past Silovs' blocker side on the stretch out to the post. Silovs came out on top once again.

Offense Picks Up In Final Minutes Of Second - 2nd, 1:52

Tristen Nielsen Hits Okuliar High, Officials Review - 2nd, 11:36
Things have picked up considerably in the past few minutes, including a high hit from Nielsen on Okuliar as the Checkers player tried entering the zone. After a few moments laying on the ice, Okuliar eventually skated off the ice and went into the locker room.
After a lengthy review by the officials, Nielsen was pulled out of the penalty box and Kudryavtsev was sent in for two minutes to send the Canucks on the penalty kill.

Checkers Looking Fully In Control, Score Again - 2nd, 12:52
After more than four minutes of play without a whistle, Criscuolo passed it to Justin Sourdif off the boards to beat Silovs high on the blocker side, tucked into the corner and make it the third goal for the home team in a row.
The Checkers defense has been strong in the start of the second frame. The rate of shots fired by the Checkers has slowed down considerably, but they have kept the Canucks hemmed into neutral ice or their own end.
It took more than four and a half minutes of the period for the Canucks to get their first shot on Kahkonen.

Stay tuned for the next twenty minutes of game one of the Calder Cup Playoff final.
Checkers get the first dangerous chance of the period, throwing it on Silovs with 18:08 remaining. The forecheck has been working well for the home team.
Okuliar Scores On Breakaway At The Buzzer - end of 1st
After a bit of waffling by the Canucks as the clock ticked down below 30 seconds, the Checkers stole possession of the puck with less than ten seconds before Okuliar broke out to go 1-on-1 against Silovs and score the goal to take the lead with 0.6 seconds remaining.
Michael Benning and Matt Kiersted were on the assist.
It was an exciting first period of the Calder Cup playoff finals. Between offensive chances up and down their lineups, strong saves by both goalies, and a rising physicality that feels like it could break loose at any moment—it's a great time to be an AHL hockey fan!

How They Got Here
Read the full write-up by Patrick Williams.
Charlotte: After placing second in the Atlantic Division with a 44-22-3-3 record, the Checkers earned a first-round bye. From there they proceeded to eliminate the Providence Bruins, going the distance in the best-of-five Atlantic Division Semifinals. Next, they swept the back-to-back Calder Cup champion Hershey Bears in the best-of-five Atlantic Division Finals to earn a trip to the Eastern Conference Finals against the Laval Rocket. Matched up against the AHL’s regular-season champion, they swept the Rocket.
They come into the Calder Cup Finals holding an eight-game winning streak, and this is the first time that a Florida Panthers affiliate has reached the Calder Cup Finals. With Florida pursuing another Stanley Cup title, the Panthers and Checkers represent the first organization to reach the finals in both the NHL and AHL since the Pittsburgh Penguins and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins did so in 2008. The last time that an NHL organization won both the Stanley Cup and Calder Cup in the same year was 1995 when the New Jersey Devils and Albany River Rats did so.
Abbotsford: The Canucks (44-24-2-2) entered the postseason hot, but they got an early scare from the Tucson Roadrunners in the teams’ best-of-three first-round series. Tucson put the Canucks on the brink of elimination before Abbotsford closed out that series. From there they eliminated the Coachella Valley Firebirds in the Pacific Division Semifinals and then went the distance with the Western Conference regular-season champion Colorado Eagles in the Pacific Division Finals, surviving that series as well. In the Western Conference Finals against the Texas Stars, they took the first two games of that series at home, before dropping two of the next three games on the road. However, they prevailed in Game 6 back at Abbotsford Centre last Sunday.
This is the first time that a Vancouver Canucks affiliate has reached the Calder Cup Finals since 2015 when the Utica Comets did so. Vancouver affiliates have also reached the Finals in 2009 (Manitoba) and in 1988 (Fredericton as part of a dual affiliation with the Quebec Nordiques) but were defeated both times.
