Long-Time AHL Scoring Ace Chris Terry Signs With Bridgeport Islanders
Chris Terry returns for a 16th pro season on a new deal with the Bridgeport Islanders.
After a mostly quiet offseason, the Bridgeport Islanders landed one of the AHL's top free-agent forwards on Tuesday.
Forward Chris Terry is back in Bridgeport after signing a one-year AHL deal with the club. The move reunites Terry and the New York Islanders organization after he spent last season with the then-unaffiliated Chicago Wolves. Captaining the Wolves, he finished second in team scoring with 21-29-50 in 61 games despite the team struggling and not qualifying for the Calder Cup Playoffs. He went to Chicago after leading Bridgeport in scoring in back-to-back seasons.

Terry's addition is a significant one for a Bridgeport team that finished at the bottom of the AHL last season with 2.25 goals per game before losing leading scorer Ruslan Iskhakov to the KHL and Otto Koivula, who was a top-four scorer, to the SHL.
With a job secured for his 16th pro season, Terry now has a chance to make significant headway in the AHL record book. His 741 points (311-430-741) tie him with Rene Drolet for 24th all-time in league history, and another 50-point campaign would vault him to 13th on the list. Having hit the 20-goal mark 10 times in his career, another 20-goal effort would send him to 12th all-time in the AHL record book. Those 430 assists have him 26th all-time, but Brian Kilrea in 18th place is only 23 assists away.
With the Terry move officially announced, only a handful of unsigned AHL veterans still remain. Goaltender Malcolm Subban, who split last season between the Springfield Thunderbirds and Cleveland Monsters, is among the most notable of names. Bridgeport opens preseason play this week with a home-and-home series with the Hartford Wolf Pack. Their regular-season opener comes Saturday, Oct. 12 when the Providence Bruins visit.
