The 2024 NHL Draft entered a new phase on May 7 when the San Jose Sharks landed the No. 1 pick in this year’s draft during the NHL Draft Lottery. 

All signs point to the Sharks taking Boston University star Macklin Celebrini with the No.1 pick.

At one point during the lottery proceedings, there was a chance that Celebrini may be joining the 2023 No.1 overall pick, Connor Bedard, in Chicago, but it was the Sharks that pulled the No.1 pick. The Blackhawks landed the No. 2 pick. 

The order for the first 16 selections is set now for the NHl Draft. Here’s the order for the 2024 NHL Draft following the lottery.

3. Anaheim Ducks
4. Columbus Blue Jackets
5. Montreal Canadiens

7. Ottawa Senators

12. Philadelphia Flyers
13. Minnesota Wild
14. San Jose Sharks*
15. Detroit Red Wings
16. St. Louis Blues

The No. 14 pick goes to the Sharks after the 2023 Erick Karlsson trade to the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Penguins missed the playoffs this year. 

The rest of the draft order will be decided after the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
