The 2024 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships final began on Jan. 5 with host Sweden playing Team USA in the gold medal game. 

The USA defeated Sweden 6-2 to take their first gold medal at the World Juniors since 2021.

Gabe Perreault got things started for the Americans with a goal in the 1st period. That was followed by an Otto Stenberg goal in the 2nd period to tie things up. Isaac Howard then scored twice in the 2nd period to put Team USA back on top. 

Sweden scored towards the end of the 2nd, setting up a tense 3rd period, before Zeev Buium Ryan Leonard and Rutger McGroarty each netted a goal to secure the win for the Americans.  

Sweden previously beat Czechia 5-2 in the semifinals to advance to the WJC final game. USA defeated Finalnd 3-2 to make it to the 2024 World Juniors Championship final.

Czechia's loss in the semifinals came just two days after the squad pulled off the biggest upset of the tournament when it eliminated Canada 3-2 in the quarterfinals.
