The 2024 NHL Draft begins on June 28 and finishes June 29 as the world's top undrafted, but draft eligible, hockey players will hear their names called. Macklin Celebrini is likely to hear his name early during the draft, especially after landing as the No. 1 player on the lastest prospect list at FloHockey. 

The San Jose Sharks own the No. 1 pick and the Chicago Blackhawks, who had the No. 1 pick in 2023, will pick second. The first 16 picks were sorted out on May 7 during the NHL Draft Lottery. The Sharks not only have the No. 1 pick, but own the No. 14 pick as well due to a 2023 trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Las Vegas Sphere Hosts The 2024 NHL Draft

The Sphere, the globe-like venu opened on Sept. 29, 2023 in Paradise, Nev., just east of the Las Vegas Strip. This is one of the the first major sporting events the Sphere is hosting. 

New York Rangers Owner James Dolan Owns Sphere

James Dolan, the executive chairman and chief executive officer of Madison Square Garden Sports and Madison Square Garden Entertainment, owns the New York Rangers (and the New York Knicks). 

His company, Madison Square Garden Company, built the Sphere. The company later split into two, with the and is now known as the Sphere Entertainment Company, which Dolan is the CEO.

The No. 14 pick goes to the Sharks after the 2023 Erick Karlsson trade to the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Penguins missed the playoffs this year. 

The rest of the draft order will be decided after the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
